Solar PV Systems
Solar electricity systems capture the suns energy using photovoltaic (PV) cells. The cells convert the sunlight into electricity which can be used to run household appliances and lighting. PV cells do not need direct sunlight to work and still generate some electricity on a cloudy day.
Electricity generated using solar methods is totally green and does not release any harmful carbon dioxide or other pollutants. A typical home PV system of 2kWp can generate around 40% of the electricity a property uses and if you produce more electricity than needed this can be sold back to the National Grid.
If your property is not connected to the National Grid excess electricity can be stored in batteries to be used when needed.
Under the governments Feed in Tariff scheme which started on 1 April 2010 a payment of 36.1p per kWh on new build and 41.3p per kWh on existing properties is made for energy generated using a solar PV System.
